My son is 26 months old, and is fascinated with tools. My husband and I are architects, and I’ve read other kids books that dumb down (or even get wrong) construction processes/terms. This book, on the other hand, is very accurate, and my son will sit through the entire thing. We will get many years out of this book, because there’s so much info to unpack. I actually wish I had had it as a primer before my freshman year! Interesting for adults too.
So...I learned so much from this book! What a wonderfully clear and precise explanation of all the fundamentals for building a house. It's great to read this with my daughter and hear what she's picking up on and then learn things myself so I can point out construction details as we go through our city. I really appreciate that the book doesn't talk down to children. It's not silly and the diggers don't have faces. It's real learning. great choice.
My 19 month-old granddaughter likes to help her dad with construction projects. She has other books about construction sites, heavy machinery, and tools. I decided that she needed one about building a house! This was the perfect choice. It's detailed enough that she'll understand more and more each time we read it. Dad works in construction management!
My grandson at 4 is fascinated by building sites. So I thought this book would answer some of his questions. I think now, having read it, I will put it away until he is 5 or 6. It has wonderful pictures accompanying the text but I'm afraid a 4 year old down't have the attention span required, nor the vocabulary to understand one rather complicated explanation after another.
A little too broad for my 2 1/2 y o grandson. Illustrations are accurate, but too detailed for young children. More about different types of homes, not as much about how they are built. I was expecting a book geared for young children anticipating a new home / location showing the care put into building their home, bedroom, kitchen, etc. I'd recomment to 8-12 yr olds who are really into carpentry.
My son is very into construction and building right now and this is currently his favorite book. He loves listening to the occupational titles of all the workers involved in the house building process and anticipating the next step--"When are they going to paint.
